ALS is a nerve cell disease that affect the brain and spinal cord. The cells slowly die off and depending on the person they will soon lose their mobility, ability to talk, and organs begin to fail. The person is slowly becoming a vegetable and life expectancy is usually 3-5 years. Luckily my dad never lost his voice but was fed through a feeding tube his last year of his life which caused aspiration pneumonia and his body obviously was not strong enough to fight it.

I watched my dad suffer from ALS for 5 years, and I have mixed emotions about this ice bucket challenge. Not enough of these videos are actually educating people on this disease. I hope people are actually donating money to this cause and not just doing it for attention and trend. Aside from that, I think it is a good thing for people to be aware that this disease is one of the worst, right next to cancer. I just hope people actually educate themselves and support not just do it for the trend. I cannot stress enough how bad this disease is, I was slowly watching my dad die throughout my high school years. Watching him lose all of his mobility the last two years was heartbreaking, even though I miss him and still think about him every second I’m happy he’s not suffering anymore. I got off topic but it’s ight..I’m venting.
